How does a runt chicken happen?

Hi this is just a random question that i have



So if a new layer gets her eggs fertilized would her chick become a runt because the yolk is so small if not, then how do runt chickens happen?

That is a great question! If a newborn chick rejects the yolk, they could be malnourished from birth. This results is a stunted growth. They also may have a bit of brain damage from this terrible event.

Ohhh ok, so I'm guessing that a new layer could have a chick that is not born as a runt correct?
