My hubby is outside right now building the chicken plank. We have EE's. Could you please tell me how far apart the horizontal strips need to be. Do you secure them w/ nails (I never see any nails in the pictures)? How wide should the plank be?

It would depend upon how steep the ramp is. I have none on mine. Usually the chickens fly up to the top of the ramp and go inside from there. The only time I see them walk the entire ramp is the odd moment when one walks down. Usually they fly down. My ramp is 8 feet long to scale a 24 inch height.

We bought a used tractor coop that didn't have a ramp. We wanted to provide one for them so they don't get bumble foot jumping down 24" to the dirt floor. My husband was making it today so I had to go w/ the little info I could find. The plank is 9" wide x 43" long (couldn't be any longer do to size of the tractor coop). The strips are 3" apart. Does that sound okay?
