We have had chickens for 2 years now but we have always gotten them at 4-8 months old. Our BA is on day 17 on 6 eggs and I'm getting excited but nervous! I'm mostly nervous about the chicks being outside. When I asked at our feed store when the mom takes them out they told me about 2 weeks old, but on here I heard 3-5 days old. We are leaving for a 3 day trip when they are only 5 days old and I would hate to have something happen to them while we are gone. I know the mom's are usually great at keeping them close but I'm curious what other's experiences have been. Also, the coop door is about 2 feet off the ground with a 2x4 to get up. It has 2x4 'steps' on it. Will the chicks be able to navigate this or should we widen it?
