I wonder if our girls are right weight or fat but don't really know how to tell. They have dropped off their laying recently and maybe we're giving them too many treats. When I pick them up I can feel their breastbones and they seem quite lean but I don't have anything to compare.
They have free access to their layer pellets which they eat but not voraciously because they roam and it is (almost) spring. We give them BOSS and cracked corn every day (a handful or 2 for 5 of them but several times a day). Anything particular to look (or feel) for?

Would be good to get a little more info as to what breed, how old, and how was their laying up to now. They may be going thru a molt, Which slows and then stops egg production. Resumes after they finish molting. If you have sexlinks, and they are thru producing.??? I don't think overweight is a factor in your case of egg production, and you said they don't feel all that plump. It may be part of these chicken's cycle.
WISHING YOU BEST.
