How Have Your LGD Experinces Been With Free Ranging Chickens?

I feel bad about not being able to free range my chickens for very long, and I was wondering if a LGD would protect them so they can free range longer. What are your experiences with them, and what breeds do you prefer?

Terrible. We tried to train them not to kill but they consistently killed and ate the chickens. The first LGD we got was great, he’d only snap at the chickens if they got too close to his food. The three that followed were all pretty bad. Only one hasn’t killed a chicken but she isn’t aloud out with the chickens. Overall nightmare-ish.
