The reason i asked is because i have a horse pen no horse is using it so i used it as a duck pen and well when it was dark me and my dad well and mother where out

sledding and i went to check on my ducky and he was gone i looked in his house and no duck he was gone my heart SANK big time! So i alerted my dad of it and at the time

our neighbor named david was taking his kids sledding and he was coming down the drive way n his truck! And i heard my little ducky quacking so i told david to stop his

truck and from up at davids house his hunting dogs came running!

And i heard my ducky quacking i ran to him to get there before the dogs found and killed him i found

him in the neighbors horse feild going toward the pond so i scouped him up!The dog where snapping at is legs and he was hissing at them and got out of my hands and

beat them dogs he sent them running with tail between there legs i saw him get some dog skin in his mouth and he twisted and pulled and left a whelt on the dogs! And i scouped him up again!Oh and in the horse feild there were two horses that almost trampled him!

And thats why i asked the question he had to fly/jump over a 5 foot tall fence to get out!Or he slipped through a hole in the fence but my question is how high can they jump/fly?

I can't imagine my Pekins being able to jump a horse pen. Perhaps slipping through a gap somewhere, but I can't see them getting over a 5 foot fence. Mine don't even jump a 3 foot garden fence. Now my Saxony once jumped a two foot fence, but that was the highest.

But thats what gets me is theres no tracks in the snow except over toward the other horse pen with the two horses! And i checked he had to fly out because there are no gapes in the fence i took 2 hours looking for a hole in the fence but no hole! uuuuhhhhh what a day!

I'm glad your Duck is ok!
My regular Pekin gal can fly about 2 inches off the ground for about 3 feet then she's back on the ground again. My Jumbo Gal flaps like crazy and can just get high enough that only the tips of her toes are still on the ground LOL
I have seen my Jumbo Gal jump a 3 foot fence when something spooked her. I imagine your fella got through a gap in the fence.

I have jumbo's and some that look regular to me.... They don't jump- they don't fly if they try they fall with style. But they can wiggle out of some tight spots. Think under the gate, or if there are holes in the fence such as our pens have wood slats but they have a 2 in gap and I have found that if a duck is determined they WILL get out of those as well. So most likely you have a hole or a gap in the pen.

Are you sure that he is a pekin? They can not fly. I'm betting he escaped through a hole in the fencing. Now that he has done it once, he will try again.

He is a pekin and he didnt fly he kinda just flew from the top of the hill to the bottom its more like he glided down but he was 1ft of the ground but the hill dropped and he was 4 feet of the ground! I really i dont see him getting over that fence but im gonna put 2ft of chicken wire all the way around the horse pen them im gonna monitor him after i do that...... The hill drops like this.he started here * the stars are him the duck and the lines represent the hill falling rate.
