We are building our fence. The wire is 5' high non climb horse fence, cedar posts 7' apart with three wooden rails 2x6,( one low to the ground, one about body height and the third at the top of the wire).
We live in town and the goats getting out can not happen. Am I being unrealistic thinking they will not get out? Just when reading other posts everyone's goats seem to get out.
Just how high can a goat jump?
Are some breeds just more spunky?

I had one that could jump a 5 foot rail like it was nothing, we raised it to 7 foot and he stayed put. Non climbable wire doesn't exist in the goat world, they will climb on everything, if you want to make sure they stay in add a strand or two of electric fence, it will also keep them from rubbing which ruins fencing and they also like to eat wood.

I think all breeds except fainting goats can get out of most fencing if they really want to, keep them happy and fed and they will mostly stay in, if they get a bit hungry you're in trouble.
