how high should a roost be?

My 4-chicken coop will be a 4 foot cube: four feet wide, four feet deep, four feet high. I think the openings to my external nest box will be 2-4 inches off the ground and will be 12-14 inches high. Because of door placement, the roost will have to be anchored above the nest box. I was thinking of anchoring the roost 2 feet off the coop floor...which would basically make it in the middle of the coop.

Would the chickens be able to flutter up to that height without a ladder?

Yes, a couple of feet are not a problem for chickens, but they may just roost on top of the nest boxes.
