I am getting 2 Hollands and 2 Wyandottes soon. My dad and I are trying to figure out how we are going to give them the best home possible. We have an area we would like to fence in for them along with a hutch for them to nest and sleep in. Will it be okay to not have a roof over the fenced area if they are only out during the day? If so, how high does the fence need to be so they can't jump over. I hope someone can help!

If they are full grown, 6' should contain them. Although, I have seen full grown large fowl roos flap and climb a 6' fence. Depends how badly they want out. Younger birds fly higher than full grown. Several factors should probably be considered concerning covering the fenced area, including climate (snow? Shade for heat?) Also, an uncovered fenced area exposes them to predator attacks.

More details, like location and size of the hutch and run would help. Are you talking about something with a wire floor? What kind of predators do you have?
