I'm thinking of trying to sell buff orpington hatching eggs, but i'm wondering how the demand is.

Do you sell often? Or just from time to time?

Would love any tips. Thanks!

(If i posted this in the wrong section, please accept my apologies. I couldn't figure out where to ask this.)

I think demand for eggs depends on several factors. Things like, how is the quality of your stock? Show quality birds (high demand)? Hatchery birds (low demand)? Somewhere in between? How high/low do you price them? Is the fertility of your birds good?

You could always just try listing some eggs and see how it goes. If the auction goes well, you can list more, and if there doesn't seem to be interest, you could either lower prices or just decide not to sell. Buff orpingtons are a fairly common breed, so if there isn't much interest, I wouldn't take it personally.

Good luck no matter what you decide!

Thanks for responding.

I haven't even started yet.

I'm just eyeballing my flock for the attributes i want to breed.

Maybe, at least until i have something to show/talk about, i will make more money selling the chicks locally (LOTS of back yarders like bo's)- than with the hatching eggs.

Once i have something i can predict the attributes of, i should be able to do a little better with hatching eggs.

Am i thinking about this right?

I'll definitely hatch a few batches myself before i try to sell the eggs. I definitely don't want to sell someone eggs that don't hatch - or anything weird like that. It's really important to me to be a trustworthy seller.
