How long before I let them in there run?

Hello,

I just put our 6 week old chicks and Guineas in their coop. I read not to let them in the run for a couple weeks is that true. How long do you recommend keeping them in their coop before I let them in there run?

I’d say at least 1 week. Guineas take longer to be oriented to their coop/run, is the run enclosed?

It does have a top. I've read the Guineas will fly out.

If they cannot escape the run, feel free to let them all out in a week! If you plan on letting the Guineas free range, keep them in the coop for about 3 weeks.

If they cannot escape the run and it is attached to the coop, I let mine out the next day. I worry about heat, more than anything.

I let my 5-week-old chicks out into the run after they spent two nights in the coop. A serving of mash was a sure way to get them back in the first couple of evenings. Now they're all tucked in by the time I go down to lock the pop door!

Definitely something to think about....coops that are not well ventilated and/or in direct sun can heat up pretty darn quick.
