How long can an egg be out?

how long can as egg be at room temp and still be set to hatch? im thinking of saving some welsummer eggs and would like to have around 40 before i set them ...the prob is i only have 3 that are laying so it might take a while..

7-10 days seems to be the max, but please note, viability goes down every single day. At the rate of three laying hens, you could get at least 15-20 before you really run the risk of incubating a bunch of 'dud' eggs.
