How long can eggs keep before going bad?

I have a trio of quail and Was thinking of incubating some eggs. Of course I dont want to do just a few, I want to wait until I have some built up. How long can I keep eggs and how should I keep them before putting them in the incubator? My neighbor says that he keeps chicken eggs at room temps for several weeks sometimes. But then again, his hatch rates arent that great and the chicks usually dont live that well afterwards either.

i am not sure about quail, but i have read that hatchibility for chickens goes down alot after 7 days.

They can keep for about a week for good results. But your chancing it after that. Dont incabate them after 2 weeks. I have hatched lots of quail eggs. Good luck.
