I've got around 10 coturnix that have hatched & many more to go. Their zipping so I hate to open the bator but some have been in there for around 10 hours. What to do?

Ga.chickenman :

I take mine out every 3-4 hrs. with no ill effects. I would take them out.

Ok. But some are zipping as I type. I don't wanna hurt the ones zipping.

Just be quick as you can and get them out. When the next one hatches, that alone will raise your humidity fast. You will be fine. Good luck, Bill

I'm again asking because I don't wanna kill the ones hatching as I've done before while hatching yard birds. Should I spray the eggs that are zipping when I get the others out are what. I've never hatched coturnix. Some have been in there around 12 hours.

Take them out just be quick about it. I just had my first hatch of anything . I took them out after about 3 hours and put them in the warm brooder. I have twelve healthy chicks. I just listened to the advice of all the experts here.

AS OTHERS HAVE STATED TAKE THEM OUT AND BE QUICK ABOUT IT... OPEN THE BATOR FAR ENOUGH TO SNATCH THEM AND DONT DILLY-DALLY, ALL WILL BE FINE. IT WILL NOT HURT THE ZIPPERS OR THE PIPPERS, HOWEVER LEAVING THE HATCHED CHICKS IN LONGER THAN NECESSARY MAY WELL HARM THEM

I used to hatch lots of quail and I would take them out after they were dried and fluffy and had been in the hatcher for several hours. My incubator has a fan, and to minimize the humidity loss - I turn off the incubator for just a minute while I get the chicks out. The brooder is across the room, so I have a box with a towel in it ready and sitting next to the incubator before I turn it off, then get the little guys out as quick as possible. Then turn the incu back on immediately. I don't seem to have a problem getting the humidity back up pretty quickly. If you do, then take a clean sponge and dampen it and put that in there to help raise it. I have used the styrofoam incubators before and if I needed to get babies out, I would just lift one of the windows and reach my hand in carefully - that helped to not lose too much humdity. I don't think you will have any trouble. Good Luck with your babies!

X 2 just don't stand there with the bator open while you stare in starry-eyed fascination and they'll be fine. Quail do NOT have the reserves that other chicks have from the yolksac so leaving them in could starve them to death ....if their fluffy remove them...a couple hours or there abouts...

I'm sorry I kept asking & then asking again.I did do as yall told me & now have hatched around 40 thus far & their still hatching. So, thanks for the help. I was panicking . I hate to see something hatching & die in the shell. So, far nothing has died so I'm happy. Here's a few that have hatched. On
