How long do chickens lay eggs?

I was wondering how long chickens will lay eggs...I have barred rocks, white leghorns, and rhode island reds. How long do they live. (not to much longer if they don't start laying)

Hi! A pet chicken can live 8 to to 10 yrs. But a chicken does not lay eggs that long by its "third yr" the egg production declines a lot. This is not always the case but most of the time this does happen. Hope this helps!

I have 2 four year old hens. The Red Star lays about every 2 days. She has slowed down, but still gives a really nice egg.

The Brahma lays about every 3-4 days. Her eggs are hit or miss with missing shells, wrinkled shells, etc., and she is such a big girl that she will frequently smash the egg in the nest.
