How long do chickens live??

I have had my chickens for 4 years and they free range during the day. How long do they usually live?

don't know the record or the norm but recently "processed" 6 yr. olds and had a 6 yr. old die of ? . they were pretty much still laying a couple times a week but we didn't have the room for new bunch coming in.
