How Long Do Hens Sit on Eggs Once Some Have Hatched?

I have a hen who has hatched 2 chicks and is still sitting on a pile of eggs, one of which I know has broken...how long will she continue sitting? When do we intervene?

Hmm, when I had a broody hen (actually two at the same time). My hen would continue to sit on the eggs until they were all hatched. So I took all the unhatched eggs and put them under one hen and put all the hatched chicks under the other. If your sure the eggs she is sitting on still won't hatch I would take them from her. Also make sure your hen is doing her duty of taking care of the newly hatched chicks (make sure they are eating and drinking or know how to).

In my experience broody hens usually leave the nest with any hatched chicks about 2 days after the first hatched. After the first day I put a little food down for her and the chicks and a small bowl of water within reach.
