This is all new to me. I have araucana hens that have been laying for over a year. I just introduced a rooster. How long does it typically take for the eggs to be fertilized?

According to Practical Poultry two to three days. I would wait a week just to be on the safe side. I'm sure there's more in the article but I'd have to do research to find it. If he's mating w/ her 2-3 days and you should start seeing a bulls eye.

All the best

How long does the hen stay fertilzed? And what if a rooster breeds her then another roo does it right after him? Will the 1st roo or the second roo be the daddy? Thanks

I was told to wait 30 days to clear the hens system out, so I take it she'll stay fertile for 30 days....as to which rooster will be the daddy, that I don't know..but Good Question.

Thanks, the reason I asked was because when my roosters jump on a hen then all the roosters go and jump on that hen over and over again!
