How long is a Rooster good for?

How long is a rooster good for on fertilization? I have 6 or 7 hens with him.......is that too many for him to service? And does a rooster generally get around to servicing every hen in the yard everyday?

If he's young and healthy then six or seven hens should be easy for him.

He doesn't have to. One "service" makes a hen's eggs fertile for 20 to 30 days. He should have no problem with 6 or 7 girls.​

Kewl I did not know this......I thought they had to mate for each egg she layed.

I defiantly need to get me a chicken book! I am learning allot just buy asking questions on here and I have had chickens for years.

No. All eggs should be fertile for a couple of weeks. So, if something ever happened to your Roo, you could still hatch fertile eggs from him, no problem. Isn't nature amazing?
