How long should new guineas be kept caged when relocated to a new home? I was considering buying some adults and was curious how long I would have to wait before I let them free range. Would three pairs be a good number to start with?

My last experience with adult guineas didn't go so well. I penned them up for 3 months. I finally let them out. Everything went fine for about 2 weeks. They ended up leaving anyway. All of the ones I own now were raised from keets and have been around for years. We have about 25-30 guineas now. I don't see anything wrong with starting with 3 pairs. You will probably have better luck than I did. I'll bet the farm that my free ranging peafowl chased them off.

I coop mine for 6-8 weeks. It's a pain, but generally they know where home is by that point. I also make sure and feed them every evening at dusk. Once they free range, they show back up for their hand out.

i locked my three older one up for 3 weeks and let them free range and they don't wander off i have them laying now i am trying to expand my flock of them because i only have 7
