I put a saddle on one of my hens this morning to protect her back from sunburn while molting.
She's been standing in a corner, working at taking it off ever since.
Do they get used to the saddle?

and I bet that hen is also planning ways to trip you on your next trip out to visit them.

Don't yet know about chicken saddles, but I think animals in general need time to get used to any type of "entrapment." Our rabbit never did get used to his harness and leash so we gave up. All he'd do is hunker down and refuse to budget. Maybe give her a few days and shorter exposures. Good luck!

Nevermind, she got it off and I saw her sisters helping her!

I thought about the staple gun.....

Disclaimer: I have never tried a saddle on a chicken.

But I was wondering, get some extra tasty treats - put the saddle on hen, then feed tasty treats - remove saddle when treats are gone. Maybe try this a couple times then leave the saddle on.

Good luck - just remember I cannot harness train our cockatoo.

The first time I put them on my girls, they FREAKED OUT!!! So I took them off right away. Then I put them on at night, and they act like they've never noticed them!

lalyswishytail, I got mine from lovemychix here on byc...do a search for saddles with that author name, and you'll find her...they are beautiful, and inexpensive!
