If I purchase a chicken at an auction or swap meet, how long do I isolate the chicken? Are there any other concerns, I should be worried about?

A fairly safe way to do this is keep her separate for 3-4 weeks then put one from your flock with her for a few weeks, which could reveal a carrier state in the new one. I'd always check a swap meet chicken for lice/mites, including scaly leg mites. I'd consider worming as well.

30 days and make sure that when you take care of the new chicken you wear different clothes and shoes then what you wear when you take care of your flock. I would also after the 30 days put a chicken from your flock in with the new one for another weeks or so then introduce both birds into the flock it is always better to introduce more then 1 chicken into a flock at a time since they due tend to pick on the lone chicken.

I see that you have 40 chickens in your byline, I would be hesitant to adding 1 chicken to 40. If you are at the beginning of your quarantine, I would get a couple more chickens to add to the main flock. So that you are adding a small flock to the larger flock.

just my 2 cents. MrsK

I use the 4 week rule, works for me.
I had brought in 2 Ameraucana roosters, to find they had scaley leg mites.
I treated them with Ivermectin, which worked great, and no reoccurrance.
It also works for deworming.
