How long to keep hen and rooster seperate from flock for pure eggs?

When breeding chickens... to make sure the eggs are the cross of a certain hen and rooster, how long do I have to keep the hen and roo penned separate from the flock if they have been free ranging. I want to know who the mommy and daddy of my eggs are.

I heard from 7 to 10 days, but is this long enough for the hen to get all the mixed eggs out of her system? Please advise.
