I've been looking for a friend for our ringneck dove for the longest time. Someone is trying to rehome one but at the moment it is free flying with some white garden doves so it will depend on whether she can catch them. If she manages to, how long should I keep it in quarantine considering it has been free flying? I'm in New Zealand and we have less poultry/bird diseases because no bird, dead or alive, is allowed to be imported (because we have so many critically endangered birds here), and the only eggs that enter the country are for the poultry industry so come from quarantined/clean facilities. But I realise there could still be respiratory diseases etc.
I do have some Vetafarm Avian Insect Liquidator I can spray it down with to deal to any lice or mites it might have. But what length of time is good to keep it separated from our other birds?
It's being introduced to a female so I'm assuming that should make it easier, whatever sex it turns out to be? I think our girl will be thrilled to have a friend.
