First timer with chickens here... my Red Star is 17.5 weeks and over the past week has been squatting, holding out wings, etc. Today she went into the nesting box!!! Any advice on when I will see an egg? I was just scooping out the coop when she jumped up after looking around the coop like she wanted somewhere to go...........any comments woould be appreciated. I'm like an expectant father pacing in the waiting room.

YAHOO!!!! My EE will some times be in there for over an hour. I guess it just depends on how close they feel it coming and how exciting or non-exciting everything is outside the coop! LOL! Newer laying hens will often go in multiple times until the get the sensations of laying down, then they will be in and out in 10 minutes! LOL!

Congrats on your new egg. Mine are in the nesting box right now. Sometimes takes 2 hrs for my older hen. I hope it doesn't take that long today bc it's 101 degrees outside right now.
