My silkie hen has been broody for 2 months now. I would like to get some fertile eggs for her to sit on, but I wanted to wait a few weeks. I don't have an incubator, so I'm counting on her. Does anyone know if she will suddenly stop? She is sitting on a golf ball and her friend gets in the box with her everyday and lays an egg, so she takes that, too. I take the egg everyday, so she's mostly just sitting on a golf ball. Can I wait a few more weeks? Is it bad for her health to be sitting for that long (she only gets up once a day to eat and drink)? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

I am not real sure. I am in my first year raising Silkies. But from what I have heard from others on BYC, they will be broody until they hatch a chick. Good Luck!!

Thank you, I really hope so!

I have one that did it for about 21 days and another followed right after her but is off her nested area at times to feed. The first one hardly wanted to move. So sad because we just kept taking any eggs for consumption. We do not have a rooster nor do we need one.
