At what temp do you start worrying about the health of your duckies? do you account for windchill or just base temp?
currently it is about -25 with windchill so I have my duckies in my garage where it is a comfortable 40 degrees F. I am just curious what other people do as its going to be fairly cold for the next week or so here in SE WI. and I am debating if I will have them in the garage all week or if I will put them back out after tomorrow which is still going to be too cold for my liking. If it matters i have Cayugas, Black Swedish, and Rouens (who are def my most cold hardy).

Wind chill matters to me if I plan to let them out for the day, but it just depresses me if I look at it otherwise (so I try not to look at overnight wind chills). They spend most of the coldest days of winter in the unheated but protected from wind barn.

However, I let them out during the day if they really want it!

I do not like it when the temp gets below zero degrees Fahrenheit (not counting wind chill). At that point, my Muscovies start to worry me and even Daphne will shake her head a bit like she’s getting a brain freeze!

My Rouens are definitely a lot more cold tolerant than my Muscovies. I would worry less if I just had them.

I worry less when there’s sunshine and no wind. Snowy and windy at 10-15 degrees is no fun. Sunny, calm, and 15 isn’t bad.

This past week hasn’t worried me at all with daytime temps in the mid twenties and nighttime temps mostly in the double digits.

Next week though...

I guess I don’t have a hard cutoff. But darn those below zero days!

X2, I worry below zero. I worry all the time though... so that’s nothing new 😂 10 degrees and sunny mine are afloat in their pool... I guess they likes what they likes.
