How many chickens can fit?

I was wondering how many chickens would fit in this coop? It is 7x12. The dimensions are for the coop and run.

I wouldn't put more than 6 in that but I'm far less tolerant to crowding than many members.

I'd go less than that. I have 13 in a 7x7 coop and a rounded 30x35 run.

This is about the same size as my coop and I will only be putting 5 in it but I would think you could do six but less is always better.

Welcome to BYC. Where, in general, are you located? Climate matters a great deal when considering chicken housing.

The Usual Guidelines

For each adult, standard-sized hen you need:

4 square feet in the coop,​

10 square feet in the run,​

1 linear foot of roost,​

1/4 of a nest box,​

And 1 square foot of permanent, 24/7/365 ventilation, preferably located over the birds' heads when they're sitting on the roost.​

There are, however, guidelines, not hard-and-fast rules. (See this article for more about that: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/how-much-room-do-chickens-need.66180/ ).

Unless there is a lot more ventilation on the other side where we can't see it in this photo you'll probably need to add additional ventilation to keep your chickens healthy.

With a rough, eyeball estimate of the proportions of the coop and run -- guessing that the coop takes up about 1/3 of the total 7x12 -- you *may* have about enough coop for 6, but *may* only have about enough run for 5. However, my eyeball estimate might be way off.

Again, climate will matter a lot. Also whether or not you will consistently let them out of that run into a larger pen or allow free-ranging.
