I have a coop/run, and need to know how many hens I can keep in it, (no roosters).
The enclosed coop is 4' x 8' and it is about 3 feet off of the ground. It is inside ( along the wall) of my run. The run is a total of 13 feet long, 11 feet wide, and 7 feet tall. I am housing rode island red hens and want to get the maximum amount of layers in there as possible without crowding them. How many? Thanks

What part of the country are you in? Do you have harsh winters when they would have to be closed up for an extended period of time?

I live in South Georgia, so we don't have harsh winters. However, it will freeze a few times out of the entire season.

I think 12 would be a comfortable amount. Max is 15.
