How many chickens can my coop hold?

Hi everyone! I have an 8ft by 8ft coop, and I was wondering about how many chickens that would house comfortably (orpington's) I have 7 hens in there now and am going to be getting 6 more in Jan. Is my coop big enough?

The rule of thumb that is repeated here is 4 square feet per bird in the coop. Following that guideline you have room for 16 max.

My coop space is a little smaller than yours, 48 square feet or 12 chickens by the 4 sq foot rule. I do have 16 chickens, but 3 are banties and I also have several long roosts and a large outdoor pen they have access to all day.

Oh ok. That's perfect! I have a huge run also, that they have access to all day. And then I go down there around noon and let them out to free-range.

The rule here is two square feet per bird, so you have a ways to go.
