My DH and I were having a discussion in bed last night, he said a co-worker was interested in getting a few hens from us ask asked my DH how many chickens we had. My DH replied about 70, WELL I was taken aback...there is no way my flock of 5 has reached 70 in a little over 2 years so I started naming and he started counting....55.....57.......62.......68. OH MY. Now granted 27 of those are meat birds but I guess that explains where the food goes.

Like Pringles, you can't have just one or two or....
I have 14 Blue Wyandottes, 5 Silkies, and 8 mutts of which 2 are EEs.
Of the 5 roosters that are close to the age of male discovery, 4 will be sent to freezer camp, so that means more room. Which is good cause I am trying to win some eggs on auction as long as they stay in my budget.
Also would like to get a SQ quality black wyandotte roo for my Wyandotte hens to improve the flock. The problem is the minimum chick orders to ensure chock warmth in shipment by the breeder.
No worries as the 4 going to freezer makes more room for chicken math.

So, are you willing to part with a few of them for the co-worker? That would give you the opportunity to replace them with the ever so cute spring chicks.

I started with silkies and a silkie hen will try to hatch out a rock. I didn't have the heart to not let them hatch out chicks. About 3 years later I had way to many and was embarrassed with a head count of 127. They were mainly hens and chicks but still..... I started selling groups of them and got down to a goal of 50. Then my goal was to get down to 30. I found 30 was a good number for me and I've only added one new bird in the last year and a half. I'm debating whether I'm going to have them hatch out a few chicks this year to replace some of my older hens.

About a month ago someone asked my how many chickens I had and I replied "only 30". They thought that was a lot....

Well I started out with two chicks I got for easter when I was about 6 or 7, and we had to get rid of them bc they were roosters, and we live in town with a no chicken ordinance, Then, My sophmore year in high school, I talked my Gparents into letting me ilegally keep chickens at their house in a different city. I ordered 3 they sent 13, Dogs dug under the coop and ate all but my phoenix hen. So I ordered 3 Naked necks the following spring. Well, I have been working since high school, and saved up enough money by the old age of 20 to buy me 4 acres of land just so I could get chickens! 2 yrs later, I have close to 55 chickens, 3 guineas, and 4 ducks, and my addiction is still not met, and I can't keep up with demand for farm fresh eggs either. So, I am building more pens, and am going to order 50 more hens next month! You can never have enough poultry!!!!!!!

I started out with 12 hens and a rooster March 2009. I got to counting this morning and realized I have a... few... more chickens!

This morning I was thinking... Okay, I have 57 hens and 3 roosters in the main coop, 22 hens in another coop, 12 hens in another coop, 37 chicks in the basement, an incubator with 42 eggs, and planning to order 40 chicks from a hatchery, which would equal...

Humm...where do I begin??? lol

We've always had chickens around. My Mother always had hens around when I was little. When we moved 6-8 years ago we had some chickens on our ranch, but they quickly got eaten by Coons, Cats, Coyotes etc. So by the time all that was said and done we had 1 Brown Leghorn hen left, I had began to take over the barn chores and loved our chickens! Well I heard about the Bantam breed and just had to have some so we ordered 100 Bantams from Murry McMurry Hatchery. 7 were dead upon arrival and 20++ died with-in the next few weeks. Needless to say I was very upset. By the time we moved them to the coop I had around 70-60 Bantams left. The first week they started laying a Dark Brahma hen went into the pasture and hatched out 2 Barred Cochin babies! I was soooo excited when I found her with the babies. After that I lost some and I gained some. My Bantams were the best 'lil birds and they layed enough eggs to feed our large family, but they somehow always had enough eggs to hatch out 20-30+ every few weeks?

I had a Buff Cochin and a White Cochin and they sat on 20 eggs and hatched everyone out and only 1 died. Well by this time I have Purebred and Bantam Mutts coming out of my ears and then we got some Cats and the mother cats started killing my chickens, I didn't know about it because I had so many I didn't know when one went missing. By the time I realized what was going on I had around 20 left! Well after a Coon attack I had 15 Bantams left.

A friend of mine was ordering a Pullet Assortment from Privatt Hatchery so I placed an order w/ her for 50 Pullets. Well when the chicks came they were all Buff Orpingtons. So now I had 52 BO hens and 7 BO Roosters. Well they hatched out chicks, the bantam hatched out chicks, I lost some I gained some. I found breeders and bought chicks etc..etc

Now, I have over 100 Chickens alone, I just finished hatching a Batch or Seramas and I'm inlove...I'm in really big trouble now!

I have 11 Guineas, Pied, Pearl, and Lavender. I have a bunch of Button Quail ( a.k.a Chinese Blue Breasted Quail ) and I'm working on setting up breeding stalls for this Spring so I can sell 'lotza hatching eggs and chicks!!

There is no such thing as "Too Much" Poultry!!
