How many different colors of chicken eggs can you (breed) make?

Currently my highest level of chicken addiction is colored eggs. So, I have been wondering how many different color of eggs have you been able to breed/make? And what mix made each color. Currently all I have is EE's laying a light to medium teal eggs but I do have some BCM's and Olive eggers in the in the brooder. It seems to me that there are many different variations of the oilve eggers, some lay almost camo eggs, other are avocado colored. Anyone want to feed my color addiction and share?

My Orp/del cross girls lay a pinkish egg. I have no idea why.

I believe I have ALL colors except the variations of Olive. There's normal olive, really dark olive, bloom-covered olive (a slate gray color, very neat!) and anything else in between.


Otherwise, these are mine. I have blue, blue-green, green, white, pink, brown, dark brown, and purple. I also of course have terra-cotta and various shades of brown and blue.

I should expect more, better green eggs in a month, a few olive eggs in 2 months, and some more purple eggs in about 6 months.

Any really dark egg layer has the ability to lay purple eggs, they're basically a dark egg with an extra coating of bloom over them, which creates the purple look. Some are a nice solid lilac color, some are a plum color like mine shown.

The thing is, it only pops up in certain hens, and they only lay them anywhere from 3 times a year to once every 3 eggs. I, though, have the wonderful and very rare chance to truly breed for the trait though

So, that's one thing I'm working on right now.

It's a secret.

I'm using my Araucanas, who are the only chicken I've ever had to lay a consistent, every-time bloom over their egg, and crossing them with my Marans with the most chances of laying an egg with the bloom. With this, I should get Olive Eggers with the bloom, and also single combed flukes with the bloom. In other words, purple egg layers.

Even the olive eggers from that batch will be "gray" egg layers. Sadly my first round was a failure though, as my only single combed pullet died in a snowstorm when the power went out (meaning the heat lamps went out) and now I just have a single combed cockerel. . . But, this next hatch should hopefully get me some single combed pullets.


It's nice to put single combed OE flukes to a GOOD use in which you actually want to see come out of an OE breeding, don't you think?
