How many eggs a week could we expect.

We bought 5 chicks this summer but one of them turned out to be a cockeral. Currently (we believe) we have a Barred rock, Ameraucana, Polish and a Houdan. we were thinking about getting a couple of SLW yr old hens from a local hatchery. Our roo is a SLW as well so we thought we could breed some chicks next spring. We definately have the room for the two extra birds but we are new to this and not sure how our egg production will be now.

Any estimates on our current weekly egg production. Anyone had any issues integrating a couple of yr olds into their flock of 12 weekers?

I've figured, once my three pullets finally start to lay, that I should reliably get at least 7 eggs a week, and more likely about 14-16 eggs a week. Possibly we'll get more, but I really only need a dozen a week.

I don't expect them to lay an egg every day (except maybe the White Leghorn) - but I reckon, 2 out of 3 a day would probably be about right.

If you have 4 hens, you should probably be able to expect at least 2 dozen a week, and maybe 3 dozen...once they're all laying reliably, and barring things like excessive heat or stressful situations.

From 7 that have been laying about a week and a half, we're getting reliably 5 a day. We had a 6-egg day once! We have 1 barred rock and 6 brown stars. Our Americauna hasn't started laying yet, but she's about 25 weeks old and her little pea comb is very dark pink, so we're hoping soon. Regarding integrating chickens together, I haven't ever tried that so I can't help you, but there are many threads on BYC about how to do that successfully.

I have read that you can realistically expect 4-5 eggs per week, per hen. So, once they are laying well, you might get between 15 and 20 eggs per week.

Be sure to read some of the threads on here regarding integrating older birds into your flock...they can carry diseases and should be quarantined for a period of time to ensure nothing is transmitted to your birds.
