Newbie here asking a question...
When a rooster breeds the hen how many eggs are ripe? Is it more on the line of one egg per ride or the next week of eggs are good to hatch?
Thanks in advance

But welcome to BYC!

The rooster usually leaves enough sperm to fertilize a weeks worth of eggs. If your hen lays an egg every day this would be enough to fertilize 4 to 6 eggs. As with everything else chicken, this is not an exact calculation and only an estimate.

Usually if you want to be sure eggs are no longer fertile it's suggested you wait 3-4weeks. You can definitely get more than a week's worth of fertile eggs so the number is probably closer to a dozen. I think it would depend more on the lifespan of the sperm than the exact number. There's a lot more sperm released than is needed to fertilize even weeks worth of eggs.

About a week... Good thing our men arent like that (we'd be in trouble)!!!
