How many eggs per chicken per day

So this person I work with has several chickens but swears only 2 of them lay and only 1 is laying at the moment. Then told me the one chicken was laying 8-10 eggs per day. What?! Does that happen? I have 11 chickens and 1 duck and get 12 max. I have a friend who has 4 and gets 6 occasionally but usually the second is a soft shell. How would that even work?!

It's def the second option. He thought since the younger chickens used to lay small eggs then "stopped" (since there are no more small eggs) that only the ones he had before were laying.

Yep, option #2. How does he think his hens got to lay big eggs? His pullets are just getting into their rhythm, and their eggs are consequently larger. Good for him.
