How many eggs under a broody duck?

I've got an Indian Runner who's decided to go broody (yeah yeah, I know--she probably won't be much good at it, but I want to give her a chance). She's lined her nest with feathers and won't get up (except when attacked by evil ferrets

. I didn't know she was in there when I put them in the pen to de-rodent, and scared the living daylights out of her. Didn't stop her from going back in to sit down after I removed the offending predators.

Right now, she's sitting on a golf ball.

I want to put some eggs under her--duck eggs--how many should I go for?

On a Runner....I would do 6-7 on the safe side. They are so slender that there doesnt seem to be much room for brooding
