How many eggs?

How many eggs can one hen handle? I have read up to 8 eggs/chicks to one hen. Is this true? I don't want to make her raise more than she can handle. Thanks flock-mama

I had one gold and one silver Seabright get out of out coop one summer. The Gold returned a few weeks later with 16...I have no earthy idea how she managed, but she did. Obviously they wern't all hers, but she mamaged to care for and raise them all. Only lost one of the whole patch and 3 weeks.
