Here is a biological question. After the roo and hen do their thing how many eggs are fertile? one? two? has anyone ever noticed?

I just bought a hen from a flock with a roo, so it is likely the her next egg will be fertile... right?

I'll do an experiment and check her eggs after ten days to see how many are fertile, then anyone who is interested can know how many fertile eggs come from one mating.

BUT if anyone else has this info I would be really curious to hear of your experiences.

Cheers

No, her next egg was already in process, more than likely. Give it a couple eggs.

Also remember that cockbirds can be picky about who they mate and that the females can "spit out" the mating if they don't wish to be mated by that male.

But, normally, things go according to plan and within a week, he'll have made his rounds and you'll have tons of fertile eggs.

Although a solid mating will produce enough sperm for a hen to make a dozen fertile eggs, an active cockbird doesn't normally wait that long to replenish her supply.
