How many nest boxes?

I have 21 hens-how many boxes do I need and how high and should I cover them?

from what i understand..its supposed to be 1 box for every 4 chickens...good luck, WEndy

Of course, no one tells the chickens this...they all want to be in the same nesting box! At least mine do.

About 1-2 ft. off the ground, covered is nice, as the hens enjoy a little privacy. They are more apt to use them if they are low and covered. Now, by "covered" you do mean with 4 sides around the nest? I'm assuming that this is so!
