How many nesting boxes per hen do y'all reccomend?

How many nesting boxes are recommended per hen? We have 22 chicks now. How many boxes should my husband build?

1 box for every 3-4 birds

4 nesting boxes. But even then they’ll only use one or two. They all seem to pick the same favorite one and ignore the rest. But I would still build 4 at least

I had 25 layers that used 5 boxes and they used all of them.

Thank you! I'm learning as I go and honestly thought each hen would need their own nest, so my husband built this pretty large hen house for me lol. At least there will be plenty of room for my girls!

Yes. And you can remove the excess nest boxes to give them even more space. You can't have too much space.

That's probably what we'll do, and yes you are right! I want them to have as much space as possible!

If your girls are anything like mine it won't matter and they'll lay anywhere they want and/ or fight over one particular nesting when the rest are empty lol

Lol, I hear you. I have 2 EE's that refuse to lay in the boxes (they go to the barn religiously) and my other 20+ fight over 2 boxes when I have 6 available for them.
