How many of you give

I had a BO roo, he was a beauty BUT he was mean to the girls and had to go.. I made plans to butcher him and was talking to my sister in law and she had a fit, her grandson wanted him, a nephew called and wanted him, a cousin called and needed him, and two friends wanted him.. He now is at my sil and is doing fine. They have 40 hens (white leghorn)w/ free range and he is being really nice to these big girls..

I say tell everyone you know or let your family 'crier' know and the word will get out...

I never give them away. I post them on craigslist for $7-9 (more if a rare breed), and eat those that do not sell.

You would be surprised how well they sell - even fairly commmon breeds like BA or BR. But here's the thing IMO - you have to place a value on them. Sure, some people will scarf up anything labeled "free" - but you'll get plenty of half-serious calls and crack pots too.

If you put a price on them, THEN they have value, THEN you stand a better chance of getting someone who really wants them (whether as a pet, to breed, eat or what have you).

I have mutts here and they are still handsome to look at. I will give mine away it anyone wants the roos. Otherwise, they go to freezer camp for food and making stock.

Well I managed to sell a Del roo and two CM chicks, I think were a pullet and a roo. for $20. It's really not so much the money as I'd even take a decent trade and have. I posted on another posting that I got a bale of hay and two bars of goatmilk soap and a #of really good Goat cheese.
I see roos posted on craigs just the usuall RIR or BR or mutts. I just figured something not so common around here would sell. I can't keep only two roos. I'd really only like one but figure I could breed and sell chicks of the uncommon breeds to generate some feed money.
