How many of you have had a cow with a broken leg?

I was wondering In the dairy & beef industry is it common to have broken legs?
I'm not sure about common.... large animals like horses and cows need extreme amounts of care to overcome a broken limb if they are unable to remain standing. If left laying down they will eventually suffocate under their own weight. Were you looking for specific information?

I've had a fair amount of exposure to cattle, and it is not common for them to break their legs. If they do however they are generally shot.

There was a dairy not far from me that had a number of cattle with leg fractures. They insisted it was because my large dogs were chasing the cattle. The fact that my dogs never went that far from home and that they never saw them near or by the pens, and that my dogs wouldn't chase their cows anyway didn't matter. They just knew it was my dogs and nothing I said could convince them otherwise. It turned out it was a selenium deficiency.
