Hi,

I hope
fl.gif
to start breeding lavender silkies next spring! And am going to have one big coop with dfferent pens made by fencing well one pen is going to be 5x10 how many Birds should I keep in their? BTW they will all have runs not just stay in their part of the coop the runs will be 8 sq feet X how many birds kept I think.

Thanks,

Happy-Hens

A lot of people on BYC quote 4 square feet per chicken in the coop PLUS 10 square feet per chicken in the run.

They are always happier with more, too. If you have cold winters you might want more room inside the coop than what I quoted since they will live indoors mostly.

I have 7 bantam silkie's in my 9x9 run they seem happy enough in there!
I rotate it every week or two! the more birds you have the quicker they wear down the grass!

I suppose it depends on what suits you at the end of the day..
Good luck with the breeding by the way! Love that colour!
