How many ventilation holes?

I'm going to drilling ventilation holes under a overhanging roof (to prevent direct wind coming in the hole) near the top of the coop. I'm going to use a 1/4" spade bit. The coop is 8x4x4FT (not including the triangle roof). how many holes are generally recommended?

If your vent holes are really only 1/4" in diameter then you will want to drill one heck of a lot of holes! Drill your holes in a rectangle pattern if you don't have a circular saw. Then punch out the rectangle and add a cheap door hinge. This way you can have a large open slot, prop the cover to keep out rain, or close it during storms. Put a vent on all 4 walls and adjust them as needed. I open up large under roof wall panels during the Summer months and leave the coop door open for ventilation.

You could just skip that and use hardware cloth to cover the underside of the roof. This will give you ventilation approaching the scale needed.

You should think of ventilation in square feet, not tiny holes.

The stale air needs to be able to move by the warm air rising and cool air entering at the bottom. You will need ventilation near the bottom of the coop on the opposite side on the same order of the upper opening to allow enough air to move through without creating a draft.

My coop has nearly 30 square feet of ventilation, roughly half up high on the side with the run, the rest down low across the coop.
