You could just skip that and use hardware cloth to cover the underside of the roof. This will give you ventilation approaching the scale needed.
You should think of ventilation in square feet, not tiny holes.
The stale air needs to be able to move by the warm air rising and cool air entering at the bottom. You will need ventilation near the bottom of the coop on the opposite side on the same order of the upper opening to allow enough air to move through without creating a draft.
My coop has nearly 30 square feet of ventilation, roughly half up high on the side with the run, the rest down low across the coop.
