How many eggs a year do geese lay? I heard it was only 20 but that has to be wrong right?

It depends on the breed and on whether you remove the eggs or let the goose sit on them.

My goose has laid between 40 and 50 eggs this first season starting January 13th and the last egg was June 19th. I lost exact count, but I know it was at least 40. I put a golf ball in the nest and took the eggs - yum!

I have 2 girls, one is 16 and one is a year and a half, I got at least 20 eggs from the old lady and probably 25 from the younger one, and these are geese with physical issues. One gets Bumble foot, or something similar almost every year, her foot swells up and she needs a little extra TLC, and the other had spraddle leg as a baby so she walks all goofy. The only expectations I have of my geese is that they are respectful of people and no aggression ever. I guess they are so appreciative of a rescue home that they decided to do a little work in exchange for the room and board. I love a soft boiled goose egg for breakfast. Had a lot of those this year!

I think the swan geese lay more, but with the greylags, you'll be very lucky to get 30 eggs a year. Some lay fewer than that.

Adding: once the goose hatches a clutch, she is done for the year.
