Hi everyone I have a girl who got attacked by my daughters dog. She has a broken pelvis, broken rib and two puncture wounds. She’s on pain meds and antibiotics. This happened last Sunday. I have been nursing her all week and she’s just barely eating and drinking. I feel like I’m starving her and dehydrating her. I’m so upset tonight and don’t know what else to do. We have a follow up appt next Tuesday with a vet.

Any ideas to help me with her. I feel so bad, I almost think I should have euthanized her

I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds like you took her to a vet. What was their long term prognosis? The broken pelvis would be most concerning to me. If they think she can pull through I would try to get as much food and liquids into her as possible. You may need to help her eat several times through out the day. Give her anything she will eat at this point if you want to keep her going. Canned peaches have been a huge hit with my hens that don't want to eat.

But if her quality of life looks poor or you get the sense she doesn't care to live you may want to put her down. It's always a tough call.

One of my girls got attacked by a dog and she has a broken pelvis, rib and two puncture wounds. I have been nursing her for 9 days. She goes back to the vet tomorrow for a recheck. Honestly if they say her bones are not healing I’m going to euthanize her. She is miserable and in pain. She is my favorite girl and it makes me sick to even think this but another member pointed out her quality of life and I agree.
