I want to start selling my marran eggs (dark dark brown) for eating not hatching. About how much do they go for? Also how much for Ameraucana (blue pink green) eggs? Thanks!

*** What does it mean buy selling for hatching? Does that just mean that they are fertile?

why dont' you want to sell for hatching? I don't know what others sell them for. i don't have pure eggs.. but personally, id sell them for as much as i sell a regular dozen:) but that's me. I dunno what others sell for.

For eating eggs around here the average price is about 2.50 per dozen. You have to research what others are charging in your area. You don't want go to high or to low. The breed of the chickens doesn't matter for eating eggs, unless your talking about the color of the shell and even then it doesn't change the price of eating eggs. You also have to consider what the local grocery store is charging too, as people who are "new" to fresh eggs will pass you over if your too expensive.

But ultimately you cant charge more than what people are willing to pay

Hope this helps:)

edited to add that, Yes hatching eggs are fertilized eggs that could hatch if incubated/brooded

it means, why don't you want to sell your eggs for hatching? people on here would buy some if they are reasonably priced and shipping isn't too difficult either. i shipped a couple dozen so far. and have recieved dozens here and there lol:)

2.25/ doz whether they be my marans, penedesenca, barred rocks, red stars, etc. I am looking to get my egg color somewhere closer to my red stars by choosing what eggs to put under my broodies, rather than the cream/light brown of my barred, buff orps, and SL wyandotte. Folks may want a mixture of colors and shades, but I need uniformity. LOL. Just not confident enough in my fertility to sell any yet- that will come with time and experience.
good luck, Keystonepaul

I think the color variety is a selling point in favor of someone picking your eggs over another vendor, but will not bring a premium in most cases. I have a customer that will not buy any of my green eggs (around here brown eggs are considered the good eggs and some folks won't buy anything else). Another customer always looks forward to a couple of green eggs mixed into her dozen.

So anyway, I expect you should charge for your Maran eating eggs whatever you charge for your non-Maran eating eggs, or whatever is the going rate in your area. Around here, fresh eggs go for $2.00 to $2.75 per dozen.
