Since I am going to buy chicks from a hatchery, they require a minimum number of chicks. I wanted to know if it would just be worth it to buy the extra chicks, raise them till they lay, and sell them for a higher price.

If you are asking if you will make a profit at this, the answer is NO! You will do well to cover your feed costs. Selling poultry, no matter what the age is a labor of love. No profit to be had for the back yard flockster. IMO, the best I can hope for is to "come out even". Not counting the many hours of work involved!

Some don’t lay persistently. At least mine don’t:lol: are you getting them for eggs? I have 8 and I still have to buy eggs.

What breeds do you have? I would be buying leghorns, as they are known to lay a lot.

It would have been a bonus if I made profit, but even coming out even is great! Do you think buying meat birds would be better?
