Mine have always varied quite a bit. I take down food each day, at night when I lock up, I check, if completely empty, I feed a little more the next day. If there is a little left over, I feed a little less.
When I first started with chickens, there became a terrible smell, and I finally realized it was rotten food. I was way over feeding them, they would scratch it out, and mix it with the soil, and it would rot. I also think that 24/7 food availability leads to rodents.
Interestingly - the amount of feed changes quite often.
