How much feeder space?

Cornish Rock. Yes, a trough type feeder has access on both sides. Like a gutter. I'd like to know the minimum required per bird. Some sources say enough room for 1/3 to eat at one time. This doesn't sound like much to me. Do they all need to eat at once?

In the pic below there are 70 broilers in the tractor. The 2 feeders you see are 5' and 3' and there is another 3' one you can't see. As you can see there is plenty of room right now, but will fill-up more as they age. The math in this scenerio says 2" of feeder space per bird. Doesn't sound like much, but they are eating out of both sides.

The Welp hatchery website says 3" per bird. So if I get a 36" feeder, and they can eat out of both sides, I should be okay. Thanks.

In my math, I only figured them eating out of one side. If I figure in both sides, that makes it almost 4", so you're okay.

Katy - It's not that big (3" pvc pipe), those birds are only 3 weeks old, maybe that's why. Yes they do poop in it occasionally, but then they also pooped in the $20 field feeder with the spinny thing on top I bought. I had nothing in these feeders. I rinse it out almost everyday, so it doesn't get nasty.
